A Breath of Fresh Air
Using Hypnotherapy to Stop Smoking
The easiest way to stop smoking is to let hypnosis help you to build a foundation of relaxation and confidence and to free yourself from any false beliefs about cigarettes before you stop smoking. This gives you time to re-condition yourself to being relaxed naturally by listening, effortlessly, to your custom made self-hypnosis CD as you fall asleep at night.
I recommend a minimum of 3 sessions, at least one for each of the following stages:
Getting ready to stop smoking
Evaluate your relationship with cigarettes. Cigarettes lie to you. They don't love you, relax or help you in any way. Identify the healthy ways you would like to satisfy your needs. Make a plan for feeling good without cigarettes.
Making the commitment
A half-hearted premature decision is an invitation to practice failing. Make the commitment and stop smoking. Do it for yourself! You’ve made your choice, now use every resource available to you to help make yourself successful: support groups, nicotine replacement, self-hypnosis CDs, relaxation therapies, medication, acupuncture, acupressure, time outs, etc.
Support in follow through and help with lapses
As your commitment gets put to the test, the areas that you need to work on become evident. Use self-hypnosis for inner guidance about how to develop the skills and strength to maintain your commitment, no matter what happens. Enlist the support of others.
WHAT CAN HELP ME GET READY TO STOP SMOKING?
Stop feeling guilty about smoking. Lot’s of nice, smart people smoke. Acknowledge that cigarettes served a purpose in your life, even though they have outlived their usefulness.
WON’T I GAIN WEIGHT?
This commonly happens when a person simply trades one addiction for another. Be willing to learn about your needs and cope in healthier ways.
WON’T I GET CRABBY OR NERVOUS?
If you are taking time to use relaxation techniques and /or self-hypnosis tapes and being good to yourself, you shouldn’t get too crabby.
HOW LONG IS NICOTINE WITHDRAWAL?
From a few days to a week. Nicotine replacement can be very helpful in the beginning while you overcome the psychological withdrawal.
WHY DO MOST PEOPLE FAIL?
Most people fail because those stinking lying cigarettes convince them that just one won’t hurt! Some people begin smoking again while drinking alcohol. Many people don’t get good follow up support before or during stressful times in their lives. Even if you did “slip” and have a puff or a cigarette, it’s never to late to stop smoking again! Don’t throw in the towel just because of one slip! The sooner you stop again, the easier it is.
Hypnosis, by itself, cannot “make” you stop smoking or do anything that you don’t want to do. You are intelligent enough to make that decision for yourself. If you want to stop smoking with hypnosis, you still have to make a conscious commitment to yourself.
If scare tactics worked, you would have stopped smoking ages ago. Forget about all the reasons you shouldn’t smoke and think about all the rewards of being free from the dependency of nicotine addiction.
